Spooners Creek History in Photos

Spooners Creek is located south of Highway 24 and now within the western town limits of Morehead City, North Carolina.  The creek in the beginning was nothing more than a storm water runoff area.   It was mechanically dredged to create a planned development known as Vera Mar Harbor.  The plans for Vera Mar Harbor included a full service marina, a white sand beach swimming area, a lodge with restaurant and a residential area surrounding Spooners Creek.  (Rumor has it the creek was named "Spooners Creek"  due to the romancing which took place in the area).  Pages from a brochure included at the beginning of this gallery give documentation of the original plans once developed for Vera Mar Harbor.  Some of those dreams, under different owners and developers,  would eventually become Spooners Creek Marina, then Spooners Creek Yacht Harbor with Galley Stack Restaurant  followed by The Galley Stack Apartments and finally The Shores at Spooners Creek Marina.

Carefully read the description  of the 1940's plans for "The Future" development of Vera Mar Harbor  and compare to the reality of today's "Shores at Spooners Creek Marina" along with the residential and commercial developments in the immediate vicinity of Spooners Creek.   It is an interesting chain of events.
